Colorado Whitetail: Private Land, Prime Hunts

Ready to chase some big bucks on prime Colorado real estate? J&B Outfitters has you covered with our 5-day guided whitetail hunt on exclusive private land. No need to mess with drawing tags or navigating public spots - we've got landowner vouchers that let you skip the line and get right to the action. Our seasoned guides know these properties like the back of their hand and will put you on the deer. With comfy lodging and transportation taken care of, all you need to focus on is making that perfect shot when a trophy whitetail steps out.

Inside the Hunt

This ain't your average deer camp. We're talking prime private ground that sees limited pressure, giving those bucks a chance to grow some serious headgear. Our guides scout year-round to pattern the deer and know exactly where to set up. We'll get you dialed in on food plots, funnels, and bedding areas where the big boys like to hang out. Expect long sits in comfortable blinds and stands, plus some spot-and-stalk action when conditions are right. With five full days to hunt, you'll have plenty of chances to connect on the buck of a lifetime.

Back at camp, kick back in our cozy lodge with hot showers and home-cooked meals. Swap stories around the fire pit and get ready to do it all again tomorrow. This is as close to a "guaranteed" whitetail hunt as you can get - these properties are managed for trophy bucks and hold some real giants.

Tracking Tips & Terrain

Colorado offers some unique whitetail habitat compared to what many Eastern hunters are used to. We're talking a mix of agricultural fields, oak draws, and pine-covered ridges. The deer here often bed high and feed low, so learning to glass effectively is key. Our guides will teach you how to pick apart the landscape and spot those gray ghosts slipping through the trees.

Expect to do some hiking to access the best spots, but nothing too extreme. Good boots and layers are a must - Colorado weather can change on a dime. We'll set you up with top-notch optics to help you judge those bucks before you pull the trigger. Shots can range from 50 to 300 yards, so be prepared for both close encounters and longer pokes across open areas.

We primarily use treestands and ground blinds, strategically placed near major travel corridors and food sources. But if conditions are right, we may do some spot-and-stalk hunting, especially in the mornings and evenings when deer are on their feet. Our guides are masters at calling and rattling, so don't be surprised if we bring a buck right into your lap!

Target Game Breakdown

Colorado whitetails are a different breed from their Eastern cousins. These deer have adapted to the rugged mountain terrain and harsh winters, resulting in some truly impressive specimens. Mature bucks in our area can easily push 250 pounds on the hoof, with antlers stretching into the 150-160 class B&C range. While not as numerous as mule deer, the quality of whitetails here is outstanding.

The rut typically kicks off in early November, with peak breeding around mid-month. This is when those big boys let their guard down and cover some serious ground looking for does. We time our hunts to coincide with this magical period when your chances of encountering a trophy buck are highest.

Colorado whitetails are known for their impressive rack width and tall tines. It's not uncommon to see bucks sporting spreads over 20 inches wide, with some real bruisers pushing 24 inches or more. The genetics here favor heavy mass throughout the antlers, giving these deer a look that's distinctly "Western."

While the peak of the rut is prime time, don't overlook the early season when bucks are still in their summer patterns. This can be an excellent time to pattern a big boy hitting a specific food source. Late season hunts also have their charm, as the post-rut bucks are desperate to pack on calories before winter hits.

Why Hunters Keep Coming Back

Our clients rave about the quality of deer and the overall experience here at J&B Outfitters. The combination of exclusive access, knowledgeable guides, and comfortable accommodations keeps folks coming back year after year. Many hunters tell us this is the best chance they've ever had at a true trophy whitetail.

The fact that we handle all the logistics - from lodging to transportation once you arrive - means you can focus 100% on the hunt. No worrying about where to stay or how to navigate unfamiliar territory. Just show up ready to hunt, and we'll take care of the rest.

Our seasoned guides aren't just skilled hunters - they're passionate about sharing their knowledge. You'll come away from this trip having learned new techniques for tracking, glassing, and judging deer. It's an educational experience as much as it is a hunting trip.

Book Your Next Tag

If you're itching to chase some monster Colorado whitetails, now's the time to lock in your spot. With only a handful of hunters allowed on these prime properties each season, dates fill up fast. Our all-inclusive package takes care of everything once you arrive, so all you need to worry about is making that shot count when a wall-hanger steps out.

Remember, we're talking exclusive private land access here. No fighting crowds or worrying about public land regulations. And with our landowner vouchers, you can skip the hassle of trying to draw a tag. It's as close to a guaranteed hunt as you can get.

$6,500 gets you five full days of guided hunting, comfortable lodging, and transportation during your stay. Bring a buddy (minimum of two hunters required) or gather up to 16 of your closest hunting pals for an epic group adventure. The season runs from September 1st through January 31st, giving you plenty of options to fit your schedule.

Don't let another season slip by dreaming about that monster buck. Give us a call or shoot us an email to check availability and book your Colorado whitetail hunt. But act fast - prime dates go quick, and you don't want to be left watching from the sidelines while other hunters are tagging giants. Let's make this the year you bring home the buck of a lifetime!

Learn more about the animal

White-tailed Deer

White-tailed deer are a prized catch here in Colorado, typically weighing 100-300 pounds. These wary creatures prefer wooded areas and field edges, where they can quickly dodge into cover. Bucks grow impressive antlers, shedding and regrowing them annually. Fall is prime hunting season when the rut kicks in and bucks become more active. Hunters love the challenge - whitetails have keen senses and can vanish in a blink. Their meat is lean and flavorful too, great for everything from steaks to jerky. For best results, set up near a known deer trail and stay dead still. Even a slight movement can spook these sharp-eyed animals. Patience is key - sometimes you'll sit for hours before one presents a good shot. But when it all comes together, there's nothing quite like bagging a mature buck in the crisp Colorado air.
